CPAP and Your Partner – Keeping Peace in the Bedroom

Let’s be honest: snoring is one of the most annoying sounds in the world. If you’ve ever been jolted awake at 3 a.m. because your partner sounds like a chainsaw revving, you know exactly what we’re talking about.

That’s why when CPAP therapy enters the picture, it can feel like a miracle. Suddenly, those thunderous snores are replaced with… silence. Beautiful, glorious silence.

But here’s the catch—many people believe that CPAP machines are loud, bulky, and disruptive in their own way. Time for some myth-busting.

Myth #1: CPAP Machines Are Loud

Maybe that was true back in the early 2000s, when machines were clunky and sounded like a vacuum cleaner in the corner. But now? Today’s CPAPs run at 27 decibels or less—that’s about the same as a whisper. Some even fit in the palm of your hand.

👉 The real key: how your machine is programmed and how well your mask fits.

Unless your machine is older with a lot of hours, it shouldn't have loud sounds! This is also why SleepEZ Home Health backs all our machines with an optional 6 year Therapy Guarantee service.

Myth #2: All Masks Are Equally Quiet

I can't tell you how many times I have heard complaints that the machine is noisy when all we needed to do is a mask fit and a small monitoring period.

So, let's break this down...

  • Proper fit matters: If your mask isn’t sized correctly, or if it doesn’t handle higher pressures well, you’ll hear leaks (and so will your partner). Worn-out cushions and headgear only make this worse.
  • Vent ports: Every CPAP mask has a vent system to release exhaled air. Some are directional (which can blow air right onto your partner’s face if you’re turned toward them). Others are diffused—spreading the air out so it’s barely noticeable. And sometimes, what seems like “mask noise” is actually air bouncing off your pillow or blanket.
  • Facial features: No two faces are the same. The bridge of your nose, nostril size, facial hair, head shape, and even skin type (oily, dry, sensitive) can all affect how well a mask seals—and how quiet it is.

Fun Fact: The Lowenstein CARA Full Face Mask is a staff favourite for the quietness of operation! The ResMed F20 has finally met its match with the CARA Full Face mask's diffused air, unbreakable frame and silicone with the longest longevity out of all CPAP masks.

Myth #3: You’re Stuck With the First Mask You Try

Not at SleepEZ. During our 6-week CPAP monitor program, we don’t just hand you one mask and cross our fingers. If a mask isn’t working—or if your partner is still hearing air noise—we’ll swap it out and try another one. That way, you and your partner both end up sleeping soundly.

SleepEZ Home Health: For You and Your Partner

At SleepEZ, we take the guesswork out of CPAP:

✅ Pressure-fitted masks designed around your face, lifestyle, and sleep habits
✅ Real-time adjustments to reduce leaks and noise
✅ The ability to trial different masks during your 6-week monitor if clinically needed

Because when you sleep better, your partner sleeps better too. And that means more energy, less stress, and way fewer arguments about who snores louder.
